Marble
Hill Reunion
2008
"Same time, Next
Year"!
|

|
|
The idea for the 2008
reunion was hatched the minute the 2007 reunion
ended. It was a very simple thought " Same time,
next year. Of course, the plan was met with some
critics saying "it is too soon". How can it be too
soon to celebrate a special time in our lives??

Marble
Hill was a melting pot of all different children coming
together as one. This year's reunion so
reflected the melting pot - there were five (5)
different age groups participating in this year's
reunion. Back then the older kids would never
associate with the younger kids except on a few rare
occasions, such as, marble season, Fourth of July, to
play a game of Ring "O" Leavio, or maybe a football
game on the grass (oh, no, never). To an observer,
they would have thought we had all been friends
forever.
As fate would have it, it was a perfect
day for the lcoation of the party. Of course, it
took place in the Bronx at the Harbour Inn Restaurant
overlooking the Throggs Neck Bridge. The fun
started with great food, a raffle of Bronx memorabilia,
the Long Island Sound Chorus roving quartet (featuring
my son, David) singing songs for the crowd to
enjoy. Goody bags were distributed filled with
candy from our youth (wax lips, lik-a-maid, pixie stixs,
and candy cigarettes). I am sure that brought back
plenty of fond memories of going to Rosie's candy store
to buy some of these
items.

The party continued until the wee hours
because time passed quickly and some of the party goers
did not want the night to end. Old friends caught
up on the passing years and new friendships were
formed. Each year there are new faces from near
and far, Calilfornia, Arizona, Florida and New
Jersey.
So, the plan for 2009 is to try to make
this the biggest reunion ever. I was thinking of
recreating the 1986 reunion which was a picnic in a park
where the kids from Marble Hill - their kids who were at
the '86 picnic and their kids could all come
together. I would love to hear everyone's
opinions. I hope those who attended the previous
reunions and did not make this one will make it next
year and the people who attended this year can make it
again. Continue to spread the word - and keep that
special place alive.
